Year 12 Raises $350 in Trivia Fundraiser
Gilgandra High School hosted Trivia Night on Wednesday, June 17 to help fundraise money to go to year 12s graduation and parting gift at the end of the year.
School captains, Jessie Riley and Blake Fairey were both excited to host the event. Gaining inspiration from a range of different quizzes and topics to curate a topical, yet challenging, trivia game for those in attendance.
“We decided to go with basic trivia topics like music, history, geography, entertainment, and sport,” Jessie said.
“We were researching and would go on other trivia sites to choose which questions we thought would be suitable for tonight,” she said.
“We expected a smaller amount, so we’re very happy about the amount of people that came to support us,” Blake said.
Joining the captains were Wyatt Johnson and vice-captain Ella Mudford with sports coordinator Grace Rogers.
The hall was tense as eight full tables battled it out with questions including what Ghostface’s famous catchphrase from the movie Scream was, when the famous Emu War happened and a round dedicated to mashed up songs.
Four rounds with 10 questions each were played, along with extra challenges in between rounds where teams had the chance to win a pair of socks.
Ultimately, it was team ‘Business Casual’ that took the glory and bragging rights home.
Students were able to raise $350 from the night, the money going towards either a parting gift from year 12 or a formal.
“We’re starting to plan for our formal and graduation but because we've done a few fundraisers already like the boys shaving their heads for cancer last year, we are also fundraising this year to give a gift to the school or to the year 12s coming up for when we leave.” Jessie said.
For the year 12s, organising the trivia was a welcomed reprieve from HSC preparations which are quickly sneaking up with exams starting mid October.
“We’re all a bit nervous, that's for sure, we have to put our heads in and really study. So, this is kind of like a bit of a break from what we're doing,” Blake said.
“Getting ready for the HSC is a lot of hard work and this is kind of the last thing that we'll be able to do so we have to really clock in after this,” he said.
Overall, the Trivia was a hit, with those in attendance impressed with the work that was put into organising it.
“General feedback was that the students did a great job at organising and hosting and that [guests] enjoyed themselves,” teacher, Grace Rogers, said.
“We just want to thank everyone who came to support us and for the teachers who helped us like Miss Rogers, Mrs Shier, Mr Woollams, and Mrs Kenaly. Just a big thanks to all,” Blake said.
