Woman dies in Newell Highway crash
About 9.55am on Friday, September 12, 2025, emergency services were called to the Newell Highway, Gowang, about 32 kilometres south of Coonabarabran, following reports a car and a semi-truck had crashed.
The 81-year-old female driver of the car was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, died at the scene. The driver of the truck – a 66-year-old man – was assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to hospital for mandatory testing. The highway was closed for an extensive period with detours in place for traffic. Officers attached to Orana Mid Western Police District commenced an investigation into the crash and a report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
