A great four days of bowls was played from Thursday afternoon through until Sunday evening, starting with social bowls on September 25.

On Friday (September 26) the annual Mountains versus Plains match was played with the mountaineers climbing their way to victory by the smallest of margins being by only one shot.

Saturday, September 27 was the first day of the Windmill Triples with a full field of 84 bowlers participating with three games of 12 ends played.

On Sunday morning, September 28 another two games of 10 ends were played to complete the event. The eventual winners were Macca and his team all from Glenbrook. Runners-up were the Garry Harvey team also from Glenbrook with the Wenden Riley team claiming third prize.

Rambo wasn’t among the prize winners and it didn’t bother him at all, as he along with Lesley Riley and Shaun Marchant were the very happy winners of the Calcutta.

Come Sunday afternoon the annual Jeff ‘Bulldog’ Irvin Memorial bowls afternoon was held.

The winners of this event were Kimi Barwick, Maxine Elsom and Ray Davis (Glenbrook). The shield was presented to the winning team by Bulldogs aunty, Lola Elsom.

By 4pm all bowlers were back in the club to watch the NRL preliminary final with all of Glenbrook being Penrith supporters.

The atmosphere in the club was electric throughout most of the match, but it was very quiet by full-time.

The winner of the bowler with the most stamina award over the four days of bowls was without a doubt, Bruce Parker. Parkey played 16 ends of social bowls on Thursday followed by 20 ends on Friday.

On Saturday he backed up and played another 36 ends and another 20 ends on Sunday morning. On Sunday afternoon while a lot of younger bowlers couldn’t possibly play in ‘Bulldogs‘ event as they were just too exhausted, Parkey was out there again for another 10 ends.

I had to get the calculator out to add all the ends up that he played with the total being four days of bowls, 102 ends played.

Just on dark on Sunday we played the spider event with the proceeds going to Gilgandra District Cancer Fundraisers. The winner of this event was Dylan Marchant while Parkey was at it again and claimed second prize. Good onya Parkey, you’re a legend!

The weekend wouldn’t have run or any bowlers been feed if it wasn’t for our volunteers who prepared, cooked and served the meals. Ed Wlodarczyk and Gil Riley were the breakfast cooks. Our masterchefs Paul Morris and Pete and Colleen Creenaune cooked a scrumptious camp oven of lamb and veggies for lunch on Saturday while hotdogs were on the menu on Sunday.

A huge appreciation goes to these people along with Shirley Barwick, Pat Harvey, Bev Rogers and Michele Doherty who helped organise and serve up the meals.

A great weekend was had by all with the Glenbrook bowlers love coming to Gil and are all looking forward to coming back again next year.
