Gilgandra Junior Cricket - Report December 9, 2023

Late last year, 12A Thunder performed well in extremely testing conditions, with a victory over CYMS Green. An earlier start helped, but the conditions were ordinary to say the least, with the heat combining with a wind to create a fan forced oven environment.

CYMS won the toss and elected to bat. This soon proved a mistake with the Gilgandra bowlers taking three early wickets to have CYMS in trouble.

CYMS were able to steady the ship and dug in but were never able to get the scoreboard ticking over with any frequency.

Thunder bowled them out in the 23rd over for 87. Wicket takers were Lachie Fisher 2/5, Mitch Cosier 2/8, Harry Thurlow 2/10, and Evie Peart, and Tex Mudford a wicket each. Mitch Cosier and Oscar Medd opened the chase with nearly a 50-run partnership before both having to retire. Mitch did the bulk of the scoring with 28 not out while Oscar was extremely patient with four not out but faced a decent number of no balls and wides.

Lachie again blasted 16 and Jock Mills had had enough of the heat coming in with a quick-fire 13 to

pass the total in the 18th over only two down.

The team were excited to have Tom McIssac come hang out with them and support them. Big thanks to Tom for his support and we hope you can make a few more games this season.

In the 12B team, Thunder went down to Dubbo RSL by 15 runs. Against a team that include some under 12 rep players, the Thunder side stood up well particularly against some faster bowling.

The highlight of the day was Mitch Beaton’s hat trick, with Heidi Colwell and Harrison Newton also picking up wickets. Kurt McBurnie led the batting, while Alana Spora stood up well against some stronger bowlers.
