It may well be a sign of things to come unfortunately but hot on the rear bumper bar of the cancellation of the Gilgandra Speedway meeting that was set down for last Saturday (February 21) came the news that the Cullen Bullen Speedway meeting that was due to happen this coming Saturday night has also been cancelled with the club’s social media release stating that the decision was made “due to an overall lack of nominations across the scheduled classes”.

The lack of nominations was also the reason for the Gilgandra cancellation.

Perhaps the cancellations are a result of the “cost of living crisis”, but no matter what the reason for the two cancellations, they must be of concern to not only the two clubs concerned but also all those who love and support speedway racing.

Apart from the clubs, the biggest losers are the towns where the tracks are located.

Anyway, it is to be hoped that the meetings scheduled for Gilgandra in the next few months get enough starters because it is a huge shame to have a quality track with a Five Star rating just sitting there looking pretty.

The upcoming dates are March 21, April 3 (Good Friday) and May 16.
