Last night, Monday, February 26, Bendigo Bank held a Welcome to Gilgandra event for new residents and their families at the Gilgandra Services Club. 45 people attended the event, making connections and learning about the town.

Chair of Gilgandra Financial Services, Julie Prout, welcomed attendees and spoke about the friendly nature of Gilgandra and the high level of volunteerism in the community, with many people helping across one or more organisations, often in addition to their work. Julie encouraged new residents to become involved in the community.

Local librarian, Liz McCutcheon, gave attendees a brief overview of the historic Cooee March. She also provided information about the current library (Gilgandra Literary Institute), the new Gilgandra Library Hub which is nearing completion, and the vast range of services available at the library.

Citizen of the Year and musician Maxine Elsom spoke of her love for Gilgandra, saying that when she does go on holidays, she is keen to get back home after just three days. Maxine and her niece Alana sang several songs, including one about the region.

Branch Operations Manager, Morgan Adams, commented that Community Bank Gilgandra handed out information on the range of services available in Gilgandra, sporting and recreational clubs plus options for volunteering and that the event was considered successful.

“It was great to be involved in this event to welcome new residents to town and to be able to provide a detailed handout for future reference. Many of the residents expressed surprise with the extensive list of services, trades, sporting and recreational opportunities and volunteering opportunities available in our town,” she said.
