Gilgandra's 2026 Waste 2 Art winners announced

Winners received a Cooee Cash Card prize and will progress to the Regional Waste 2 Art Showcase Exhibition in Broken Hill in August.

Gilgandra Shire Council hosted the 2026 Waste 2 Art Awards Night at the Coo-ee Heritage and Visitor Information Centre on Thursday, May 21, 2026, celebrating creativity, innovation and sustainability through recycled art. The competition attracted a total of 18 entries across preschool, primary, high school, community, and open categories.

Judging the entries were GSC mayor Doug Batten, Locky Naef from Solid Signs, and council’s Stef Alchin.

Waste 2 Art 2026 Winners:

Preschool Combined Winner – ‘Splat’ by Aussie Kindies.

Primary Two-Dimensional (2D) Winner – ‘Geffrey’ by Dusty Jordan.

Primary Three-Dimensional (3D) Winner – ‘Rattlesnake’ by Mia Buckley.

Primary 3D Highly Commended – ‘Redback’ by Oliver Buckley.

Primary Functional Winner – ‘Willa’s by Shake Necklace and Bird Feeders’ by Willa Tincknell.

Primary Functional Highly Commended – ‘Christmas Basket’ by Devaki Sunilkumar.

High School 3D Winner – ‘Old School Jewellery Box’ by Florence Harvey.

Community 3D Winner – ‘Farmer’ by Philip Henley.

Open 2D Winner – ‘Micro Trends’ by Emily Horan.

Open 3D Winner – ‘How the Flowers Grow’ by Nicole Harte.

Gilgandra Shire Council thanks all entrants, volunteers, judges and community members for their support of the 2026 program.
