Gilgandra Shire Council’s director of aged care and disability services, Donna Dobson addressed the crowd, offering a heartfelt thanks to those serving in that sector. She noted that the spirit volunteers bring is invaluable, especially for the elderly and those living with disabilities.

“Without you, what we do would not be the same,” she said. “I see you out there every day, and we just really appreciate it.”

Volunteers were recognised with certificates and vouchers as a small token of appreciation, and guests were invited to enjoy a spread of refreshments in the Gil Library Hub and plaza.

In addition to the celebration, attendees received an update on a major development in community services.

The council previously announced the relocation of aged care and disability services to a new facility at 41 Miller Street, formerly known as the ‘tavern’. Mrs Dobson advised the centralised service will open in the coming weeks, with a further community celebration planned to mark the occasion. (Read more in this edition).

The event concluded with a cheerful reminder to enjoy the food and connect with others - a fitting end to a morning dedicated to those who give so generously of themselves.
