A recent winner over 1800 metres at Gulargambone, the Brett Robb, Dubbo-trained Vastly displayed versatility when winning the 1400 metres PJ O’Brien Memorial Come-By-Chance Picnic Cup.

In the Cup, sponsored by Rabobank and State Wide Sheds, Vastly ($6.50) was taken to a big lead in the nine horse field by south coast rider Dylan Parrott and kept going strongly to win by almost four lengths from Avoid Me (Leandro Ribeiro, $4) and Noble One (Amber Collins, $3.50).

Last start Wellington TAB winner Tampa Bay won the 1200 metres Boss Agriculture-RW Melville Memorial Conditional Handicap for Dubbo trainer Connie Greig.

Cool Nanczye (Dylan Parrott, $2.60) set the pace but Tampa Bay (Leandro Ribeiro, $1.60 favourite) from fourth, took control and cleared out to win by over five lengths from Cool Nanczye with Silent Drama (Michael Gray, $5) filling third place.

Connie Greig completed a double when Hot Miss (Amber Collins, $1.50 favourite) after a good battle with stablemate Fierce Impulse, $1.60) won the 1600 metres Wardi Broking “Gleneda” Class B Handicap by a neck.

Winner of a Showcase race at Mudgee and then spelled after being unplaced in the Country Championship Qualifier at Dubbo, State Of Grace was primed for a good first up run at Come-By-Chance by Dubbo trainer Todd Smith.

Nicely positioned running second by Leigh Taylor, the leading picnic jockey in Victoria, State Of Grace ($2 favourite) defeated Rita Red (Leandro Ribeiro, $2.70) by a short head with the leader Notabadchassis (Skye Regan, $3.20) finishing over two lengths away third in the 1000 metres Arrowfield Commodities Kensington-Open Sprint

Opening race, the 800 metres Market Check “Fernleigh” Class Three Trophy Race, saw a three lengths all the way win by the Graeme Brooker, Coonabarabran trained Smart ‘N’ Ritzy (Tamsin Gough, $3.50) over Box Of Crackers (Leandro Ribeiro, $4.40) and Ilikesooboogie (Ashley Boyd, $2.70 favourite).
