Bendigo Bank ABC Shield

Playing at home in Warren, 2023/2024 Bendigo Bank ABC Shield champions USC-Marthaguy have demonstrated their potential with an impressive eight-wicket win against Curban in round three on Saturday, November 22.

The Gilgandra District Cricket Association (GDCA) competition resumed after harvest break and the Warren-based outfit was clinical with both ball and bat, dismissing Curban for 104 (25.3 overs) before a composed chase of 2-105 in 23 overs to record a clinical success.

In the field, Will Young (2-6 off three overs), Hayden Brett (2-18 off five overs) and Douglas Freeth (2-15 off five overs) were outstanding for the hosts while Hugh Duncan was in the wickets with 4-53 off his eight overs.

USC-Marthaguy opener James Glasson (61 not out) spearheaded the chase with Duncan (17) and Charles Howard (14 not out) supporting Glasson in the comfortable win.

For Curban, Tom Younghusband hit four sixes in his 47 while Kane Younghusband (24) also batted well.

Curban’s bowling attack all tried hard with Tom Younghusband (1-32 off six overs) and Anthony Barry (1-17 off four overs) the successful bowlers.

Meanwhile, defending premiers Biddon-Tooraweenah (BT) became the first side to defeat Dunedoo with a 73-run success at Tooraweenah Oval.

Lachlan Ferguson’s classy 76 was the backbone of BT’s 8-194 from its 40 overs, while Jon Kilby (42) and Jaimie Zell (33) played good support roles. In reply Dunedoo was bowled out for 121 in 27.3 overs.

Kilby (3-19 off seven overs), Oscar Spora (3-28 off seven 6.3 overs) and Jeremy Cosier (3-33 off seven overs) were all impressive for the victors.

Dunedoo’s best with the bat were Josh James (38) and Daniel Shiers (24) while with ball Jacob Besgrove (2-24 off four overs), Max McKenzie (2-26 off six overs) and Rick Henderson (2-39 off five overs) picked up multiple scalps after some economical early bowling from Nathan Duce (0-19 off eight overs) and Nathan James (1-27 off eight overs).

One round three Bendigo Bank ABC Shield match had already been played in late October when the ladder-leading and undefeated Gular (142) won against Town Services (105).

Meanwhile, Coonabarabran was forced to forfeit its round three clash against Gidgee on November 22, handing the Coonamble-based side a win.

Brewery Shield

Bourke was also unable to field a side against the Gilgandra association in the scheduled Brewery Shield clash that was set down for Sunday, November 23 at McGrane Oval, Gilgandra. Dubbo (8-208) defeated Cobar (122) in the other representative match.

That means Gilgandra will now meet Dubbo two Sundays in a row.

The winner of Sunday’s (November 30) round three match between Dubbo and the Gilgandra association at McGrane Oval, Gilgandra will host the Brewery Shield Final.
