Toyota Icon, Mark Walker, Celebrates 30-Year Milestone
Mark Walker manager of Gilgandra Toyota recently celebrated 30 years of service with a special morning tea

The showroom at Gilgandra Toyota was transformed into a celebration of loyalty, family, and community on Tuesday, February 17, as staff and customers gathered for a special morning tea to honour branch manager Mark Walker’s 30 years of service.
The event wasn't just a corporate milestone; it was a testament to three decades of building relationships in the central west. Ben Thompson, dealer principal of Dubbo City and Gilgandra Toyota, led the tributes, describing Mark as the "epitome of excellence".
"Mark is a real living example of putting the customer first in everything you do," Ben said. "From his start as a service technician to evolving with the business over 30 years, his ability to deliver consistent results and employee happiness is incredible."
For many in attendance, the relationship with Mark transcends the typical buyer-seller dynamic. Loyal customers shared stories of decades spent buying vehicles locally, noting that over the many years, Mark has transitioned from being their salesman to a trusted friend.
"Our relationship with Mark goes way beyond just buying a car," one long-time local customer shared. "When you’ve been coming here as long as we have, you don't just see a salesman; you see a friend who genuinely cares about your family."
The sentiment was mirrored by the Toyota team. Staff members were quick to label Mark as the "best boss they’ve ever had," citing a leadership style defined by humility and a "customer-first" obsession that has clearly rubbed off on the crew.
The team noted that Mark’s reputation is so high that customers frequently walk or call into the dealership specifically asking to speak with him, even when they are only there for a routine service booking.
When it was Mark’s turn to speak, he remained characteristically humble, focusing more on the people around him than his own achievement.
"It doesn't feel like 30 years," he said. "Probably one of the biggest pleasures is just the people I’ve been able to work with and the guests who have become friends along the way. I’m a firm believer in the family we have here, and I'm still happy coming to work every day."
As the morning tea wrapped up, the message was clear: while the technology and the cars have changed since Mark started three decades ago, the value of a handshake and a local face has stayed the same.
