Newell Highway Crash at Gilgandra

At about 2pm last Thursday, November 20, 2025, emergency services responded to reports of a crash between two vehicles – one of which was towing a trailer – along the Newell Highway, Gilgandra.

NSW Ambulance paramedics assessed both drivers at the scene. The 22-year-old male driver of the vehicle that was towing the trailer was taken to Gilgandra hospital as a precaution.

The driver of the second vehicle – a 60-year-old woman – was also taken to Gilgandra hospital with minor injuries, which was later revealed to be broken bones in her foot and leg.

Officers from Orana-Mid Western Police District have been informed that the vehicle towing the trailer allegedly crashed into the rear of the other vehicle.

After impact both vehicles rolled multiple times.

Following inquiries the 22-year-old man was issued with an infringement for negligent driving which carries three demerit points and a monetary amount of $562.

Driver Dies at Tomingley

A 33-year-old man died after a trailer detached and struck his vehicle in the state’s west. At about 6.30pm on Friday, November 21, 2025, emergency services were called to Newell Highway, Tomingley – about 38km south of Narromine – following reports of a crash.

Officers attached to Orana Mid Western Police District attended and were told a trailer attached to a Toyota Hilux had detached and collided with a Toyota Landcruiser.

The Landcruiser driver was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, he died at the scene.

The Hilux driver – a 34-year-old man – was uninjured and taken to hospital for mandatory testing, and released pending further investigation.

A crime scene was established and Crash Investigation Unit commenced investigations with the assistance of specialist officers into the circumstances of the crash. A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner. Anyone with information or dashcam footage is urged to contact Orana Mid Western Police District or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Five Teenagers Charged After Pursuit

Three teenage girls and two boys will face court over a pursuit in Narromine. At about 5.45pm (Wednesday, November 19, 2025, police officers attached to Orana-Mid Western Police District were patrolling the Mitchell Highway, Narromine, when they sighted a black SUV allegedly being driven in a dangerous manner.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle; however, when the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued through the intersection of the Mitchell Highway and Rosedale Road, Dubbo, where road spikes were successfully deployed.

A short time later, the vehicle stopped near Westview Road, Dubbo, where five occupants allegedly ran from the scene.

Four teenagers – two girls aged 15, a 13-year-old girl and a boy aged 13 – were arrested nearby.

About 6.40pm on the same day the fifth occupant – a 16-year-old boy – was arrested in Dubbo.

They were all taken to Dubbo Police Station where one of the girls – aged 15 – was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive at speed and drive conveyance taken without consent of owner.

Two girls aged 13 and 15 and two boys aged 13 and 16 – were charged with being carried in a conveyance taken without consent of the owner. The 13-year-old boy was also charged with custody of knife in a public place.

Four of the teenagers were refused bail to appear at Children’s Court last week.

The youngest girl was granted conditional bail to appear at Children’s Court in January 2026. Inquiries revealed the vehicle was allegedly stolen from a home in Portland earlier on the same day.
