After School Programs

Our after-school LEGO® and Tech Clubs will return to their usual time slots this week. We would like to thank everyone for their patience, and we look forward to welcoming you back for more creative after-school fun.

Little STEAM Saturday Returns

Our Little STEAM Saturday program will return this week, with plenty of fun for little learners aged three-to-six years, and their families.

Storytime This Week

Storytime is back this week; we will be reading “We’re going on a present hunt” by Goldie Hawk and Angie Rozelaar.

Storytime is perfect for little ones aged zero-to-five years and their families and carers. All welcome!

Friday Arts and Crafts last week

Last Friday (November 14), we had a wonderfully lively craft morning, with 17 attendees of all ages, which was lovely to see.

Our sessions are simple and designed for fun - perfect for catching up with old friends and meeting new faces.

With Christmas just around the corner, we made paper angels for the tree and concertina stars.

We’ll be continuing with this festive theme next month. Our craft mornings are open to adults, but as space is limited, we kindly ask that you call the Library Hub in advance to reserve your spot.

Friday Flicks This Week

Join us at the GIL Library Hub this week for a free film screening on the big screen! Twice a month, we feature a recently released, well-reviewed film suitable for adults, rated G or PG. Bring along your favourite snacks or stop by one of Gilgandra’s great cafés for a coffee and treat to enjoy during the movie.

Friday Puzzles and Games

Do you like puzzles, cards and board games? You are invited to come and join us for “Friday Puzzles and Games”; a fun morning of solving jigsaw puzzles, playing cards or board games. This morning is an opportunity to meet other like-minded adults and solve problems using logic, intuition and creativity. Free event! We suggest you bring your own snacks to enjoy - why not drop by one of Gilgandra’s fantastic cafes beforehand and grab a coffee and snack to bring along?

Library Book Club

Last week, the Library Book Club gathered to discuss ‘Girl in a Blue Dress’ by Gaynor Arnold. In this novel, Arnold offers a fictionalized portrayal of Charles Dickens’ wife, exploring her reflections on their courtship and the eventual decline of their marriage. The group agreed that it took a little while to get into the rhythm of the book.

Once we did, some members enjoyed it, while others were less enthusiastic. Victorian England was a time marked by strict societal norms, especially when it came to relationships and personal matters.

When comparing this to today’s world, our group felt that the wife in the story was tragically unsupported, with her husband showing little regard for her emotional well-being or happiness.

Despite this, she ultimately found strength and confidence, reclaiming her family and a better quality of life in the end.

Riverview Book Club

Next week, the Riverview Book Club will be gathering to discuss ‘Still Life’ by Sarah Winman. If you’re interested in joining a book club, we’d be happy to welcome new members! The library offers a variety of book club sets to choose from, helping us select our next read.
