Designs From Your Mind LEGO Club

Designs from your mind LEGO club was certainly ready for last weekend's Goin' to Gil Festival.

Our builders created vibrant LEGO scenes inspired by the Goin’ to Gil parade and Under the Gums concert, including the special guest they were most excited to see, SpongeBob SquarePants. Come and check out the builders’ creations, now on display at the library.

Tech Club

There was plenty of laughter during Tech Club as we celebrated the end of term three with a gaming session. We put our driving and shell-throwing skills to the test in Mario Kart before enjoying a hilarious Gang Beasts brawl that had everyone in stitches. Uncoordinated moves, unexpected betrayals and desperate escapes kept us entertained throughout the session.

Did you know you can book a gaming session during the school holidays? Users can play on our gaming computers, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch or Meta Quest 3 VR headsets. Contact the library for more information.

Storytime

Storytime at the GIL Library Hub is a special time for early learners to develop and strengthen a range of important skills through stories, songs, movement and play.

At our last session, we practiced counting to twenty while reading ‘One, Two, Buckle My Shoe’ and counted four cheeky chicks hiding throughout the pages.

We sang songs and moved our bodies, following instructions and learning about different body parts along the way.

The story ‘Where Is the Cat?’ helped children explore how some animals may feel about loud noises. We then sang about the weather before heading into the children’s garden to discover what the weather was like that day, and even spotted some beetles.

Our final story, ‘CockadoodleMOO’, introduced rhyming words, followed by sensory parachute play. Children also enjoyed a farm-themed craft activity, cutting out different jigsaw pieces and putting them together to complete a picture.

There will be plenty more stories, songs, activities and learning at Storytime next month!

Wiggles and Giggles

Preschoolers were wiggling and giggling all through last week’s fun movement session at the GIL Library Hub! Songs and music helped us practice yoga and show off our best dance moves, with the Bluey soundtrack getting everyone’s blood pumping.

Equipment time was a favourite, with children balancing on beams, rolling on mats, climbing ramps and kicking balls into goals. The bubble machine created plenty of excitement as everyone jumped and clapped while trying to pop the bubbles!

Imaginative play was also a highlight, with the stretchy rope becoming a boat as we rowed away from crocodiles, before transforming into a train.

We can’t wait for more Wiggles and Giggles next month!

Riverview Book Club

Riverview Book Club met last week, enjoying a great discussion of “Lessons in Chemistry” by Bonnie Garmus.

For our next book, we chose “The Bookbinder of Jericho” by Pip Williams. Our book clubs read books from sets provided by the library, and meet monthly at the library for a relaxed and engaging discussion.

We would be happy to welcome new members to either of the existing book clubs, or to start a new one, if there is sufficient interest. It is a great way to meet new people and have thought-provoking conversations.

Upcoming Early Learning Activities

Sensory Rhyme Time returns next week.

Babies, toddlers and carers can enjoy songs, rhymes, stories and sensory play designed to support early learning and development.

Little STEAM is also back next week. Preschoolers and families can explore science, technology, engineering, art and maths through fun, hands-on activities, stories and creative projects.

Upcoming Adult Activities

Adult Arts and Crafts returns next week. Enjoy a simple craft, a chat and good company. Remember to bring fabrics and any material suitable for creating the wreath and embellishments. Please RSVP, as places are limited.

The Point Blank Writers Group meets next week to share stories on ‘The Void’. New members are welcome.

Upcoming School Holiday Activities

Week two of the Spring School Holidays promises to be just as action-packed as the first. Come along to the GIL Library Hub and join us for these fun holiday programs.

Our holiday edition of LEGO Club is packed with creative fun. Build, explore and create your own imaginative worlds, one brick at a time.

Get crafty while enjoying some stories. Create a colourful stained-glass duck during Crafty Storytime to brighten up your window at home.

Robots are taking over at Robotics at the Library! Come and play with our robots or get creative and build your own.

Finally, race into the GIL Library Hub for a Kids Gaming at the Library session. Challenge your friends in Mario Kart, Gang Beasts and other fun multiplayer games.
