Rhyme Time

Early literacy plays a vital role in the development of babies and toddlers, and at The GIL Library Hub we are proud to offer enriching programs for little ones and their caregivers.

Last week at Rhyme Time, we explored body parts through songs, movement, and interactive activities that helped children learn to recognise and name different parts of their bodies.

We sang favourite nursery rhymes accompanied by bells, creating a fun and engaging musical experience.

Families also enjoyed simple stories featuring repetitive language to support early word recognition and language development.

We warmly welcome all families to join us at the library and take part in our wide range of early learning activities.

Tech Club

Some of our talented young filmmakers have completed their very first movie trailers at Tech Club, and the results are spectacular!

Not only did they direct, film, and edit their productions, many also starred in them, showcasing their acting skills as well as their creativity behind the camera.

Others explored augmented reality apps to create digital characters, controlling their movements before superimposing them onto real-world footage.

One imaginative trailer even featured ninjas and Vikings battling monsters in the library!

Filmmaking adventures will continue next session at Tech Club, and we can’t wait to see what our creators come up with next.

Friday Arts and Craft

Last week, our Friday Arts and Craft group turned a collection of found materials into creative works of art.

Using two large bags of white buttons in a variety of sizes and shades, along with decorative card, plenty of glue, and lots of imagination, participants created charming pictures of sheep and a snail.

The handmade cards and artworks turned out beautifully and are ready for framing. Most importantly, everyone enjoyed a fun and relaxed morning together.

New faces are always welcome to join the Friday Art and Craft group, which meets on the second Friday of each month.

Upcoming early learning activities

We are looking forward to welcoming toddlers and preschoolers to Preschool Craft starting this week!

Come and be a petite Picasso as you explore your child’s creativity in the library.

Babies, toddlers, and preschoolers are all welcome to experiment with different materials and techniques, and create a masterpiece to take home.

Next week, join us for Books and Blocks, where little imaginations can create endless worlds of adventure and play.

Build towering structures, drive trucks through tunnels, or let dinosaurs roam your very own city- the possibilities are endless!

Books and Blocks encourages creativity, problem-solving, and imaginative play in a fun and welcoming environment. Suitable for children aged zero-to-five years.

Join us every week for Little STEAM at the library, where preschoolers and their families can explore science, technology, engineering, art, and math through hands-on play and discovery!

Each session features fun activities, stories, experiments, and creative projects designed especially for young learners. Come build, create, explore, and imagine together in a welcoming space full of curiosity and fun!

Upcoming Adult activities

Join us this week for Friday Flicks as we screen a recent, well-reviewed G or PG-rated film on the big screen. Why not visit one of Gilgandra’s great cafés beforehand and bring along some treats to enjoy during the movie?

Can’t make it to our Friday Flicks sessions? Join us instead next week for Saturday Screenings, where we replay some of the popular films previously shown on Fridays. It’s the perfect opportunity to catch up on a movie you may have missed or simply enjoy it again on the big screen.

Next week, bring your thinking caps and your fun, competitive spirit along to Friday Puzzles and Games! Enjoy a variety of card and board games, learn something new, and join fellow puzzle-solvers for an engaging and social session.

For adults, this is also a wonderful opportunity to connect with others in the community while spending a relaxed and enjoyable morning together.

Tech Savvy Seniors

A new season of Tech Savvy Seniors is starting this week; Tech Savvy Seniors is free, fun and friendly small group tech training, made possible thanks to funding from Telstra, the NSW Government and the State Library of NSW.

If you would like some help with using smartphones or tablets, this program is made for you.

Sydney Writers’ Festival - Live and Local

Sydney Writers’ Festival is Australia’s largest celebration of books and ideas, bringing the world’s finest authors and esteemed thinkers together for insightful and exhilarating conversations and discussions.

This year, for the first time, a large selection of the Sydney Writers’ Festival Live and Local program will be screened live at The GIL Library Hub.

The event will run over three days, with a total of 10 one-hour talks screening live at the GIL Library Hub.

All talks are free of charge, and everyone is invited to come to as many or as few as they wish.

There will be a one-hour break between talks- a perfect opportunity to enjoy a coffee with a friend at one of Gilgandra’s great coffee shops.

Or you may like to bring your lunch with you to enjoy in The GIL Library Hub as you watch one of the lunchtime sessions.

Service NSW Savings Finder

Would you like help uncovering savings you may not know about? This week, Lisa from Service NSW will be visiting the GIL Library Hub to guide community members through the Service NSW Savings Finder program.

Many people are eligible for a range of vouchers and rebates but aren’t aware of what’s available to them. Lisa will provide one-on-one assistance to help residents check their eligibility and register for relevant savings.

Everyone is welcome to attend, and morning tea will be provided.

Revenue NSW Visit

Next week, the GIL Library Hub will host Janaya Carney, outreach officer from Revenue NSW, who will be available to support community members experiencing difficulties with fines or debts.

Janaya can assist with a range of options, including lifting licence suspensions, reducing or disputing fines, setting up payment plans, or exploring options such as approved courses or volunteer work to help pay off fines. If you or someone you know could benefit from this support, please feel welcome to attend.
