A new Telstra tower is one more painstaking step closer to be a reality with Gilgandra Shire Council (GSC) announcing that the construction certificate has been issued for the development.

After pushing back on a timeline of Christmas 2025, the ongoing 4G network congestion is still the bugbear of the local community.

On Monday, February 23, GSC advised that a construction certificate was issued in February (2026) for the development Wamboin Street, and "that construction will shortly commence on the new Telstra telecommunications tower, restoring critical connectivity for residents and businesses".

Telstra has confirmed construction is scheduled to begin in early March 2026, with design works now progressing through its internal teams.

Telstra has engaged Amplitel, a leading telecommunications infrastructure provider, to deliver the project, with completion targeted for June 2026.

GSC general manager David Neeves said “We have closely monitored the progress of this project with Telstra and welcome the issuing of the construction certificate, which enables works to commence".

"Council will continue working with Telstra to support a smooth construction process and timely completion before the end of the financial year.”

Council also stated that the relocation of the tower follows much community advocacy and ongoing discussions with Telstra to address the longstanding connectivity issues affecting Gilgandra, including within the township and CBD.

"Council will continue to provide updates to the community as works progress in partnership with Telstra and their contractors."
