A blessed and happy occasion occurred on Saturday, April 20 at Bathurst’s Anglican Cathedral when Gilgandra’s Stuart Border was ordained as an honorary deacon by Bishop Mark Calder.

Mr. Border, a well-known and highly-respected local identity in Gilgandra, had car loads of friends, family, and fellow St Ambrose Memorial Church members travel to Bathurst to share and celebrate the special occasion.

Mr. Border’s ordination followed a lengthy process of study, interviews, and prayerful discernment. Having served the community for decades in numerous and varied ways, his tireless voluntary efforts were acknowledged five years ago when he was awarded Gilgandra’s Citizen of the Year.

Similarly, his ordination recognizes his many years of devoted Christian ministry within Gilgandra and beyond. He will continue to serve his beloved community as he always has, but with more scope in ministry, which will now include officiating at weddings and baptisms.

Mr. Border now joins fellow deacon Anne Younghusband in this capacity.
