Stronger Communities Applications Open
Stronger Communities grants offer an opportunity across the Parkes electorate
Round 10 of the Australian Government’s Stronger Communities Programme is now open for expressions of interest, and Federal Member for Parkes, Jamie Chaffey MP, is encouraging community groups to apply.
The Stronger Communities Programme invites community groups and local governing bodies to apply for up to $20,000 of funding to deliver small infrastructure projects, with a total of $150,000 available for each electorate.
“The Stronger Communities Programme is a great opportunity for community groups to get that important project off the ground, or to finish one that is already underway,” Mr Chaffey said.
“In these tough times, every dollar counts, and a grant of up $20,000 could make a significant difference to a group looking at a project such as hall improvements, purchasing equipment or improving accessibility.
“Community groups and local government make our communities wonderful places to live in. This is one way they can receive some solid support to keep making a difference in their local communities.
“Last year saw some great organisations receive funding, including Camp Cypress in Baradine, funding for Orana Support Service for the Dubbo Youth Accommodation Centre and money towards the Fun Family Fitness program in Broken Hill.
“I encourage community organisations to take a look at the Stronger Communities Programme and consider applying.”
Eligible applicants include incorporated not-for-profit organisations, non-distributing cooperatives, companies limited by guarantee, Australian Indigenous corporations, eligible religious organisations, and local councils.
Funding may cover up to 100 per cent of eligible project costs for eligible not-for-profit groups. Local councils who apply must contribute at least 50 per cent of eligible project costs.
Following the expression-of-interest process, selected organisations will be nominated and invited to submit a formal application to the Federal Government for funding under the Stronger Communities Programme.
Murrin Bridge Local Aboriginal Land Corporation chief executive officer Narelle Hall said the organisation was grateful for the allocation of the Strong Communities Program round nine grant and supported the initiative.
“This grant enabled the Tullibigeal-Lake Cargelligo United Rugby League team to wear their Indigenous-designed uniforms, showing pride, unity, and strengthened cultural identity,” she said. “It is building strong connections with the club and community, and showcasing our club in the group 20 comp.”
Expressions of interest must be submitted to Mr Chaffey’s office.
