This is becoming very repetitious to the point where the good folk that make up the Gilgandra Speedway Club must be wondering if they will ever race again!

Yes folks, the speedway races set down for November 14 have unfortunately been canned due to lack of nominations.

Me and Me Mate are not too sure how many cancelled meetings that makes it for the club, and we don’t think that we would be making an understatement in saying that the members of Gilgandra Speedway Club are becoming extremely frustrated and disappointed that their five-star track is laying idle because they can’t get sufficient starters to make running a meeting viable.

Quite obviously the increasing cost of living, driven by the high fuel prices is doing the speedway game no good at all!

Do you want the good news or the bad news?

The good news is that Gilgandra Junior Rugby League and Netball Club do have people willing to run the club next year, those people being the same ones that ran it this year.

The bad news is that the majority of the large number of kids who get to benefit from the hard work of those few willing people are orphans, well at least that seems to be the case because they (the parents) are not to be seen when there is work to be done.

Me and Me Mate would be interested to know how many “parents” could find the time to attend the GJRLN presentation night last Thursday but were way too busy come Sunday lunch time to make it to the AGM.

Services Club Stop Press, 10-years-ago!

Interschool sport – fresh off wins in the Single Cup and the Ronny Gibbs Sevens, Gilgandra High School registers its third consecutive win over Narromine High School in their interschool sports challenge.

Things were a bit breezey and rainy last Saturday up at Gil Sporties in more ways than one!

That being particularly so in one of the A Single’s Championship semi-finals being played on the day, that match being between Trevor Briese and Noel Raines.

This was to be very close fight between two talented bowlers, it being neck and neck throughout

the intense battle to be the first one to reach 25 points.

Trevor led 24 to 23 going into what was to be the final end of the gripping encounter, but it was to be Noel that prevailed, snaffling two points to come away with a 25 to 24 win.

The other semi-final between Dylan Marchant and Blake Cook was another quality game, but the winning margin was somewhat more clear cut with Dylan winning 26 to 16.

He will play Noel in the final next Saturday whilst Blake will also be in action next Saturday, playing against Tracey Riley in the B Grade Singles final.

Would not surprise to see both games attract a large number of spectators.

Over the weekend just gone Lex Scotti scored 72 stableford points at the Gil Golfie, which may not mean a whole lot to you if you are not a golfer, but anyway he scored 36 of those points on Saturday and the remaining 36 on Sunday with his Sunday effort winning him the day with Ken Williams finishing second on 33 points and Mark Barwick third with 31 points.

Just to confuse you let's go back to Lex’s 36 points that he carded on Saturday which landed him third place after a countback with Andy Harris for second and Ken Williams winning the day on 38 points
