A local Tooraweenah beekeeper recently took out the top prize at The Sydney Royal Easter Show.

Seanne Jenkin, who started beekeeping as a backyard hobby said it has become more of a passion project.

The beekeeping venture is called Spiresight Apiary Tooraweenah. She currently has five hives, that she relocates around her property on a trailer, moving them at night to wherever the best flowers are.

"Good quality, locally sourced honey is becoming a premium product; now that so many beekeepers are battling with ever increasing effects varroa mite," said Seanne.

“I was surprised, but very excited and honoured to have taken the first place in class 33 for hobby beekeepers with a score of 93.5 out of 100. I really enjoy the bees; I find them so intriguing and it’s really special to be recognised at The Sydney Royal Easter Show," she said.
