The 2024 Senior Week Luncheon, held on Monday, March 25 at the Gilgandra Shire Hall, was a fantastic event bringing together the ‘golden-aged’ residents of Gilgandra. The morning began with tea and light refreshments, before the awarding of this year’s Senior Citizen of the Year to Brenda Walker, a long-time volunteer in the Gilgandra community.

Entertainment was quick to follow, including song and dance from Gilgandra Public School and Gilgandra Preschool, and a clever blend of acting and choreography by St Joseph’s School’s year six class. These acts were followed by performances such as Beryl Barden on the piano, Peter Bensley on the spoons, and Barrie Batten strumming the classics with his solo guitar act.

Maxine and Alana Elsom also made several appearances, performing songs together or accompanying other acts separately. The Coo-ee Singers also made an appearance, getting the crowd involved in the show before a healthy lunch (and dessert) was served by students from the Gilgandra High School.

The afternoon was closed out by the presenting of local gift vouchers earned by attendees through winning at table trivia. The event was a major success, bringing together locals from Cooee Lodge, the hospital, and around the local area for a celebration of community spirit.
