Last Sunday evening Curban Community Hall rocked with foot-tapping music, when Australian country music band Rhinestoned took to the stage.

The band’s passionate driving force is lead singer/songwriter/guitarist Kirsty Lee Akers, whose diminutive stature belies her unique, powerhouse voice.

Dan Ebbels on lead guitar amazed the audience with his playing which was nothing short of brilliant, and singer Jesse Anderson (who is also Kirsty Lee’s husband) completed the trio.

The concert was part of the group’s “Small Towns, Big Hearts Tour 2024”, and Curban Hall’s appreciative audience was treated to old country standards, like Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire”, Dolly Parton’s “Nine to Five” plus a nod to the band’s title with Glenn Campbell’s “Rhinestone Cowboy”, as well as other country hits and some of Kirsty Lee’s original compositions.

There was no doubt about how much two-time Golden Guitar winner Akers loves her craft, as her enthusiasm and considerable vocal abilities captured all who were present.

Ably accompanied by Ebbels’ lightning guitar picking and Anderson’s vocal harmonies, much foot-tapping among the audience was inevitable.

A special feature of the evening was a guest appearance by Maddan Russell, 6-year-old son of the group’s manager.

Pint-sized Maddan, in his cowboy outfit with his guitar over his shoulder, strode onto the stage with all the aplomb of a seasoned performer, and captured the hearts of everyone, a star in the making.

After the concert was over, the performers were happy to mingle with the audience, chatting and laughing in a relaxed, down-to-earth and thoroughly unpretentious manner, a charming end to a thoroughly delightful evening.

The Curban Hall Committee would be thrilled to welcome the group back if they tour this way again.
