Approaching the finish of a very successful season for Jake Pracey-Holmes, the Gulgong-based jockey has produced a flurry of winners over the past week.
Pracey-Holmes had a winning double at Carinda, Culgoa Kate and Edge Of Reward (Carinda Cup) and at Coonabarabran on Saturday his four-win haul comprised Meteor Mist, Inarticulate, Justo’s Rocket and Battle Reign.
The win by Justo’s Rocket was very popular, being trained by Wayne Martyn who shares ownership with Roger Matthews, both being from Coonabarabran.
Adding a sentimental touch to the result, the winner is named in memory of the late Justin Antaw, a young man who loved helping at stables in Coonabarabran and on race days at meetings.
Tackling the leaders soon after turning for home, Justo’s Rocket (Jake Pracey-Holmes, $4.40) pulled away for a convincing win over Poised (Anna Weatherlake, $3.20 favourite) and Stormy Malice (Kody Nestor, $8.50) in the 1200 metres Imperial Hotel Maiden Plate.
Owned by Adam Hazelton and trained by his brother Kieren Hazelton at Gilgandra, Inarticulate at the second start since coming from Victoria won the 1600 metres Coonabarabran Kookas Class One and Maiden Plate.
Under strong riding from Jake Pracey-Homes, Inarticulate ($6) wore down the leading pair to score a half-length win over Jupiter Hills (Nick Palmer, $2.70 to $2.20 favourite) and Himeros (Jasmine Urqahart-Warren, $7).
The other winners for Jake Pracey-Holmes were the Liam Ruddy, Scone-trained Meteor Mist ($2.50 favourite) and Battle Reign ($5.50) trained at Muswellbrook by John Collison.
Mendooran trainer Jane Clement continued a fine season with the quinella Bill Peyto and My Angel Shell in the 1600 metres Imperial Hotel Benchmark 50 Handicap.
Well-ridden by apprentice Anna Weatherlake, Bill Peyto ($5) coming from last gained a rails run inside the leader My Angel Shell (Gabrielle Johnston, $5) to win by a long neck while Aiofe (Jake Pracey-Holmes, $11) ran on nicely for third.
A regular visitor to the central west from his Newcastle stables, Dale Wagstaff is the trainer of Ken’Ker (Serg Lisnyy, $7) all the way winner of the Coonabarabran Unicorns Rugby League Class Three Handicap from Midnight Rabble (Leanne Boyd, $4.60) and Northern Boogie (Jake Pracey-Holmes, $4).
