Pink Panthers winning opportunity
Gilgandra’s Pink Panthers are eyeing off a chance to grab win number one of 2025 when they travel to Coonamble on Saturday, July 5 to play the Bears in Castlereagh Rugby League league tag action.

When the two sides last met at McGrane Oval, Gilgandra on Friday, May 2, Coonamble was able to score a 26-12 success.
However, that match was one of the Pink Panthers’ best efforts of the season and they will carry the confidence gained from that fixture on the 95-kilometre trip north.
Having just finished a difficult three-game stretch against the three best sides in the Castlereagh League ladies league tag competition with a 64-0 loss to Dunedoo at Gilgandra on Saturday, June 28, Panthers president and Pink Panthers co-coach Shane Byrne said the side is focused on improvement.
Gilgandra played on Saturday, had a team get together on the Sunday night and will now work hard in preparation for this Saturday’s clash against Coonamble. “Things are really positive,” Byrne said.
“There has been a lot of good talk and the side sees this weekend as a good chance to grab a win.
“We have played a lot of very good sides lately, but we continue to keep trying.”
Byrne believes the side keeping self-belief and starting well will be crucial if they are able to beat Coonamble at Coonamble.
“It’s important we have a really positive attitude at all stages,” he said.
“When we go through difficult periods, we need to stick together.
“I think it’s also pretty important we start fast and just continue to work on what we have been at training.”
To finish off 2025, Gilgandra will play Coonamble, Baradine, Cobar, Gulgong, and Dunedoo.
