It was only the start and the end of the fixture that cost Gilgandra as they went down 20-nil early but then fought back through the back end of the first half to only be down by 16 points at the break.

Embracing the long away trip to Tom Knight Oval at Cobar, Gilgandra was only down 26-10 at half-time.

Gilgandra matched Cobar during the start of the second half on the Roosterettes’ home turf. Cobar struggled to build that 26-10 until the final five minutes of the second half when a late flurry of four Roosterettes tries blew out the scoreboard. “The girls fought back pretty well,” Byrne said.

“In the second half, just a little bit of fatigue set in at the back end.

“For a long period of that game we were right in it.

“Attitude wise, it was a much improved game.”

Skye Doherty (fullback and in the forwards) and centre Shari Grimshaw both received one best and fairest point.

Gilgandra Pink Panthers captain Kiara Brown continues to impress in the halves and received two points, as well as receiving two overall competition best and fairest points in another impressive display.

Camella Hazelton, who started off the bench but played all across the field, picked up the three points and players’ player for the Pink Panthers.

Hazelton came on in the forwards in a running role before playing in the halves and at hooker and in the centres. Brown and Hazelton were Gilgandra’s try-scorers.

The Pink Panthers also welcomed a few new players at Cobar. It means Friday night’s game at McGrane Oval against Warren should be an interesting affair.

The Bulldogs have one win while Gilgandra is still searching for its first success of 2025.

“Come down and support the Pink Panthers, should be a good night,” Byrne said. “Gold coin donation only and canteen and bar will be open.”

Cobar Roosterettes 50 (Taylah Good 2, Kayla Hasson-Williams 2, Jezebel Hitchens, Amylee Patterson, Brianna Watson, Teresita Turner, Kelsy Neve, Neve Carter tries, Watson 5 goals) defeated Gilgandra Pink Panthers 10 (Kiara Brown, Camella Hazelton tries, Brown goal).
