Hey everyone, after a long break I haven’t moved on, I’ve just moved to boarding school at Farrer in Tamworth.

I’m going to keep doing my articles and keep talking about sport. I’m learning a new routine and I’m being kept very busy, but I will do my best to keep up my articles. I might miss a few weeks every now and then with my school and activities I am doing taking up nearly all my time. I even have to make my bed now!!

Alright, let’s get talking about sport. This week I’m going to talk about the Australian Open to ease my way back into it. So, please be quiet in the crowd, because this one is going to be an ace!

This year’s winners were Carlos Alcaraz in the men’s singles, who beat Novak Djokovic in four sets, and Elena Rybakina in the women’s singles, who beat Aryna Sabalenka in three sets.

This was Carlos Alcaraz’s first-ever Australian Open title and Elena Rybakina’s second grand slam title. The win also gave Carlos the prestigious ‘Career Grand Slam’, which is the winning of the four major slams. At 22-years-old, he is the youngest of the only eight other men to do so. Novak isn’t too sure if he will return to Australia as a player again, and I think he might need to retire so he can stop winning grand slams and give someone else a go.

The most Australian Open titles won by a men’s player is Novak Djokovic with 10, and in the women’s it’s Serena Williams and Margaret Court with seven titles each.

Unfortunately, Alex de Minaur fell short again this year, losing in the quarter-final to Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets. But he gave it his best, and Carlos is in his prime and went on to win the tournament. Well done to Alex you gave it your all, and there’s always next year.

This year it was 50 years since the last Australian men’s winner of the Australian Open, Mark Edmondson in 1976. In the women’s we have had more recent success with Ash Barty has having won the title in 2022, before retiring two months later.

Fun fact – the Men play for the Norman Brooks Challenge Cup and the Women play for the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup.

Maybe people can suggest a few sports they would like me to write about throughout the year.

Thanks guys hope that was an ace.
