Men’s shed to trial new night hours
Since its founding, our Men’s Shed has been opening on the mornings of Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday each week.

After a decade of daytime meetings, Gilgandra Men’s Shed has decided to begin opening on Thursday evenings as well.
Since its founding, our Men’s Shed has been opening on the mornings of Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday each week.
Now, following the lead of other regional Men’s Sheds, a trial night will be held on Thursday, January 23, to see if a late opening is viable.
A sausage sizzle will be held, and tea, coffee, and soft drinks will be available from 6.00pm till 9.00pm.
Members of the public who have not been able to make it to the Men’s Shed during daylight hours will be able to see what facilities and amenities are available.
“The idea came from Bruce [James],” said Phillip Yeo of the Gilgandra Men’s Shed.
“[He] wanted to open the Men’s Shed to people who couldn’t come during the day… we always want to attract new members,” he said.
Phillip said that the “basic function” of the Men’s Shed is to provide a safe smoke and alcohol-free place for men of all ages to gather to work or simply talk with others.
“It has been said that the most important tool in a Men’s Shed is a coffee cup,” said Phillip.
“Not everybody wants to work, not everybody can work. For those who don’t want to work, they can always stop by and have a chat with us.
Members of Gilgandra Men’s Shed hope to see a good turnout at the trial night for what they believe will be a very pleasant and interesting event.
