Local junior cricketers wrap-up busy season at presentation
A heap of happy kids and parents connected at the GDJCA presentation last month.

Gilgandra and District Junior Cricket Association wrapped-up its 2025/2026 season with a presentation function at Gilgandra Services Club on Friday, March 13.
It was another busy season for GDJCA, who had various sides compete in Dubbo and District Junior Cricket Association competitions along with operating a Blast Cricket program co-ordinated by Jacqui Hutchison.
“We would like to thank everyone for what has been a very successful and enjoyable year. Your support throughout the season has been fantastic!” the GDJCA said.
Gilgandra had two sides compete in the DDJCA under 12s B competition.
Gilgandra Storm had a great 2025/2026 season, winning eight of 13 matches to qualify for the semi-finals in fourth place.
Gilgandra Storm were brave in the semi-final against minor premiers Narromine Bombers 13B, losing a thriller by 13 runs.
Thomas Colwell (22) was the star in Gilgandra Storm 132, but Narromine managed to score 145 to win.
Lochie Thomas (1-18), Eloise Jenkin (1-13) and Janos Nithlian Rajan (1-13) all took wickets for Gilgandra Storm.
Gilgandra Thunder were also highly competitive, winning six of 13 matches to finish in sixth-place on the ladder in the 10-team competition.
Dubbo CYMS Cougars 12B white were premiers in the division.
In the under 14s division, Gilgandra and Wellington combined to field sides in both the 14A and 14B divisions.
The Gilgandra-Wellington under 14A side finished third in the regular season with six wins and four losses.
They played RSL Colts in the semi-final and despite Oscar Medd top-scoring with 32, it wasn’t enough as Gilgandra-Wellington posted 6-118 in 25 overs and RSL Colts (4-120 off 23.2 overs) were able to overhaul the target for a six-wicket win.
Georgia Allan (1-11 off three overs) was good with the ball with Evie Peart (0-6 off three overs) also economical in the semi-final. Dubbo CYMS Cougars were eventual under 14A premiers.
Across the under 14B competition, the combined Gilgandra-Wellington side had a 6-4 win-loss record with one no-result and two byes to finish second behind runaway minor premiers Dubbo RSL Colts.
In the semi-final, Narromine Bombers (2-90 off 12.3 overs) were too good for the Gilgandra-Wellington side (7-86 off 23.2 overs).
Mitchell Beaton made 23 for Gilgandra-Wellington while Jackson Towns grabbed 1-6 off two overs with ball.
The 14B competition remained true to form with RSL Colts comfortable winners in the final.
“As the 2025/26 season ends, I am pleased to report that it has been a very successful year for Gilgandra and District Junior Cricket,” president Nadine Jenkin wrote in her end-of-season report.
“On the field, our players have shown great improvement, dedication, and sportsmanship throughout the year.
“This has led to some excellent results, with three out of our four teams making it into the finals.
“This is an outstanding achievement that reflects the hard work and commitment of everyone involved.”
In summary, the president was appreciative of many people across the eight-week Blast Cricket and under 12s, under 14s cricket.
Also the Gilgandra and District Junior Cricket Association had numerous players compete in representative programs.
Heidi Colwell and Hannah Peart (under 14s Western girls), Lachlan Fisher and Oscar Medd (Dubbo under 13s boys) and Georgia Allan, Evie Peart and Lainey Walker (Western under 15s girls) with Georgia and Evie going on to even higher honours with the under 16 and under 19 country championships, under 15 state challenge and under 15 state final.
“We look forward to building on this success in the coming seasons and continuing to provide a positive and enjoyable cricket experience for all our players. Thank you all for your contribution to a fantastic season,” president Jenkin concluded.
