The candidates for the NSW local government elections have been announced and 10 residents have officially registered for the Gilgandra Shire Council (GSC).

Nine candidates are needed to fill all seats of the GSC.

Under the Local Government Act, if the number of candidates is less than or equal to the number of vacant seats on council, those who nominated are automatically elected in an ‘uncontested election’.

This election period, a surplus of candidates for council have nominated for seats on GSC, meaning a regular election will be held in September this year.

Nominations for the 2024 local government elections closed on Wednesday, August 14.

The majority of current councillors have nominated themselves again this year.

In addition, two residents not currently on council will run for a seat.

Nominees for GSC are: Amber Bunter, Paul Mann, Douglas Batten, Ian Freeth, Gail Babbage, Gregory Peart, Madeline Foran, Brian Mockler, Ashley Walker and Nicholas White.
