Little Wings Clinic to launch Gilgandra clinic in April
Gilgandra Shire Council has announced that Gilgandra will welcome its first Little Wings clinic this month
Little Wings is a not-for-profit organisation providing free medical services for seriously ill children and their families throughout rural and regional NSW.
To celebrate the beginning of this vital service - council together with Little Wings will be inviting the community to a Morning Tea at the GIL Library Hub to discuss ways in how we can continue this vital service in our region and for our children.
GSC mayor, Doug Batten says supporting Little Wings is an opportunity for the community to make a meaningful difference in the lives of local families.
“I encourage local community groups, schools and businesses to get involved and explore ways they can help continue this important service. Little Wings provides an incredible lifeline for families across our region. They ensure children can access vital medical treatment while keeping families connected and supported during what is often an extremely difficult time”.
Ways our community can help give Gilgandra Little Wings - donating; sponsoring, become a volunteer, host a fundraiser, and workplace giving.
Additional benefits for sponsors include: 100 per cent tax-deductible donations; recognition through Little Wings’ social media, traditional media, and community engagement activities; and visible partnership in improving regional health outcomes and supporting local families.
“The impact of this program is significant as it ensures timely access to pediatric specialists, reduces pressure on local services, and strengthens long‑term health outcomes for children in our community," said mayor Batten.
Little Wings CEO, Clare Pearson has proudly welcomed the engagement of the program in Gilgandra. “We are so proud to be partnered with the Gilgandra community to deliver a MEDICAL WINGS clinic, providing a paediatrician each month to support children with their medical needs and to take another step forward for regional health more broadly. The Medical Wings program provides all children with an opportunity to reach their full potential”.
Little Wings is 90 per cent volunteer-led, with all pilots volunteering. While costs are kept low, essential expenses like fuel and maintenance remain. Each mission costs $1500, with 12 clinics per year totalling $18,000.
Little Wings brings medical specialists from major metropolitan hospitals directly into regional communities - offering a range of benefits, including: strengthen and complement existing local services; are entirely free for families (bulk‑billed, with no gap fees); provide clear referral pathways to ongoing specialist care, enabling families to access the hospital flights program to support their appointment needs.
Little Wings are focused on increasing services across western NSW and are seeking the support of the community keep bringing Little Wings to families in Gilgandra.
