Under 14s Rugby League

The U14s kicked off their season with a solid win against Coonabarabran on Saturday. The boys put on an impressive performance in their first competitive outing, coming away with a 36-24 victory.

With a few more training sessions, this team is shaping up to be one to watch. Special mention goes to Ezekiel Williams, who took home Panther of the Week honours for his standout performance.

Under 10s Rugby League

In our first game against a very physical Baradine team, we matched them the whole way.

Bella Hammond looked like she was squatting flies; every time she ran, it was like no one wanted to tackle her.

Lochie Thomas ran and tackled like he was ready for first grade. Our captain, Wiriana Marshall, tackled his heart out all game.

Toby Bonham gave great service out of dummy half, and Ryle Walker proved that you can’t coach speed. Samuel Lawrence showed a lot of potential, with speed to burn and a will to learn. Jaxen Altus is a player you want in your team, turns up every game and tries his best.

However in the second game, while they were all sugared up, was when they dominated against a big Coonabarabran side. Liam Cosier was in front of every big kid and is starting to realise he’s no longer the ‘little kid’.

Everyone needs to stop and remember the name Jayden Sutherland - what an awesome display of - this is my field and get out of the way. Inglis Peters also dominated, displaying great organising skills. Eddie Woodrow ran the ball hard, and Ricky Bennett scored at will. But the play of the day was Levi Burrell making a break, getting tackled, and passing the ball to James Riley when he was almost on the ground, and James (“Black Eye”) Riley beating three Coona players to score in the corner.

Great stuff by the under-10s, see you all at training on Thursday.

Under 10s Netball

The U10 girls came up against a strong Dubbo side and went down, the score didn’t reflect the effort. The team played with heart and gave it their all against a very polished opponent.

Under 12s Netball

It was a solid win for the U12s, who came out on top 12–7 against MAGS. A great start to the season with plenty to build on!

Division Two Netball

Our division two netball girls put on a masterclass with a dominating 52–9 win over Trangie. The team looked sharp and organised - a great sign of things to come.

NSW Combined High Schools team

Gilgandra Junior Rugby League and Netball would like to congratulate Sailor Ryan and Ezekiel Williams on being selected in the Greater Western U15s team who will compete at the NSW Combined High Schools (NSWCHS) state trials in Wollongong at the end of the month.

Sailor Ryan represented North West and Ezekiel Williams (Peck) for Western last Friday.

Both boys played unbelievably well and should be very proud of this achievement especially since only six kids from Gilgandra have achieved this in the last 30 years!

We encourage everyone to congratulate the boys and wish them well in their upcoming trials!
