Gilgandra basketball players took to the courts for round one of the Waratah Western Junior League last weekend, travelling to Griffith to showcase their talents with the best of the region.

Unfortunately, Gilgandra Basketball Association did not have enough players to enter their own team in the competition, however the association continues to support and celebrate the talents of their members in their representative journeys.

This is Milla Morris’, playing for the Dubbo Rams under 14 girls, first time playing representative basketball. She held her own on the court, scoring eight points over the weekend and helping her team win two out of their four matches.

Darcy Morris and Cale McEwen joined Dubbo Rams under 16 boys this year, with the boys team winning all four of their games. As one of the tallest players on the team, Cale greatly supported in defence, while Darcy’s numerous three-pointers added to the points tally.

Ethan Morris joined the Dubbo White under 18 men’s team, which had two wins and one close loss in a thrilling game which went into doubleovertime. Ethan’s support greatly assisted his team and his three-pointer had the crowd cheering.

After eight years of playing representative basketball, Dominic and Sebastian Manusu have oined the Dubbo Rams Blue under 18s team for their final year of junior basketball. Years of competition have turned the twins into a formidable team, with their defensive skills making them a force under the basket. Their team had two close losses, including a one-point loss in overtime, but had a convincing win to finish the weekend. The Gilgandra players will continue to train in Dubbo and Gilgandra over the next month before round two in March.
