Jan is Toora’s 2024 Senior Citizen
The recently awarded Tooraweenah Lions Club’s Senior Citizen of the Year 2024.
The recently awarded Tooraweenah Lions Club’s Senior Citizen of the Year 2024 went to a long standing member of the community, Jan Robertson.
Mrs Robertson was honoured with the title of 2’024 Senior Citizen of the Year’ for her stalwart dedication to the Tooraweenah community, including the Tooraweenah Show, and the “many years working tirelessly in the show pavilion”, states the award nomination. She was an integral part of establishing the rural transaction centre in the local area, providing internet access to the residents of Tooraweenah.
Mrs Robertson was a key figure in the founding of the Tooraweenah Bungles 30-years-ago. She is one of the original members of the small committee that run the publication. From training editors, to handling the database, and sorting rosters and accounts, she has had a hand in it all. She has also played a significant role in keeping coal seam gas mining out of Tooraweenah’s farming region, and has maintained her active involvement in keeping it that way.
Community service runs in the family, as her daughter Jo Miller gave a speech at the awards on the upcoming ‘Shitbox Rally’, a Cancer Council fundraiser that she undertakes. Mrs Robertson said she is honoured to be the recipient of this year’s award. An accolade that her family, and friends were more than happy for her to receive.
She said she looks forward to continuing her work in the community for the benefit of the land and the people.
