Hope remains for Flamin’ Galahs

A gritty Gulargambone Flamin’ Galahs fell short against the Bogan Bulls, but hope remains after a fiercely contested Western Plains Rugby Union Tri Tag major semi-final at Warren last Saturday (August 24).
The Flamin’ Galahs took on the Bulls with a grand final spot on the line.
The Bulls stormed ahead early, racing to a 22-0 lead by half-time, leaving our ladies with a steep hill to climb.
Despite the early setback, the Flamin’ Galahs regrouped at halftime, led by captain courageous Makalia Gordon, who kept the talk and energy high when spirits were low.
The team came out in the second half with renewed determination, and it showed.
The score remained 22-0 at full-time with the Flamin’ Galahs much improved in the second half.
Stef, Chelsea, Peta and Phip led the charge, making some very strong runs up the middle, proving that the Galahs weren’t ready to back down.
Lana our Casino import came in hot after rushing from work to make the game, her presence and determination was felt immediately.
The second half saw a transformed Galahs team. Clem was as crucial and reliable as ever at the breakdown of ruck plays meanwhile,
Heidi, our versatile Newcastle import, filled many roles during the game.
Sarah and CK, who had been frazzled in the first half, found their rhythm in the second.
They sliced through the Nyngan defence, creating gaps and opportunities, but the Bulls’ defence was just too strong, preventing any tries from crossing the line.
Kelsey, Lucy, and Sharna made some amazing breaks as well, but without the second support player backing them up, they couldn’t convert those chances into points.
It’s something coach Mills is sure to drill into the girls during the next training sessions.
Our fullback Paige put on her usual class act making crucial runs and chase downs despite suffering a knee injury from training.
On the wings, Teagan and Abbie made some quick getaways, showing their speed and agility, but once again, the Nyngan defence proved too good at shutting down the Galahs’ attack—for now.
Though the game ended in a tough loss, the Flamin’ Galahs’ second-half performance was a testament to their grit and determination.
They managed to keep the Bulls scoreless in the second half, showing that they’ve got the heart and the potential to bounce back.
Now, all eyes are on next weekend’s clash against the Coonamble Ewes, a match that promises to be another intense battle as the Ewes are hot after a win against the Walgett ladies in last week’s minor semi-final.
The Flamin’ Galahs may have fallen short, but their fighting spirit is far from extinguished.
With the right focus and preparation, they’ll be ready to give it their all to secure a place in the grand final on Saturday, September 7. Stay tuned the Galahs aren’t done yet!
