Another successful year for Gilgandra Museum, thanks to our wonderful volunteers.

As the year is nearly over, we can look back on another successful year for Gilgandra Museum, thanks to our wonderful volunteers who keep the doors open every day. These volunteers also maintain and improve exhibits and keep the grounds in good order for the enjoyment of our visitors.
In October we were pleased to receive confirmation that our application to council had been successful, through the 2024/25 Local Heritage Fund Project, to paint and undertake repairs to three of our heritage buildings.
The buildings being repaired include the former Tooraweenah police lockup, the Berida book keeper’s office and the Bullagreen shearer’s quarters. A $5000 grant, together with $5,450 of the society’s funds will see this essential work being undertaken by local contractors in the New Year. We are also awaiting advice from Museums and Galleries NSW concerning a grant application, made some months ago, for a showcase to be placed in the annex at Coo-ee Heritage Centre.
Last Friday, November 22, we had a special visit to Gilgandra Museum from students of Tooraweenah Preschool. It is always a pleasure to host these youngsters as they are so well behaved and so interested in everything around them.
The children arrived early and enjoyed morning tea in the meeting room, sitting on a mat their teachers provided, then explored the remainder of the museum. Seeing the old buildings, their contents and then the tractors and machinery in the big shed can be an eye opener for many.
