Hilda Newstead has been acknowledged as a ‘Leader in Community Development’ by the Commbank Women’s Assembly. The recognition came as part of a ‘Local Ladies Lunch’ event held on Sunday, March 3, hosted by The Exchange in Dubbo, held in the spirit of International Women’s Day. The event was followed by lunch at the Old Dubbo Gaol.

A ‘Leader in Community Development’ is defined by the Commbank Women’s Assembly as “a woman who has played a key role in improving her local community through social work, education, and community organizations.” Mrs. Newstead has spent over three decades volunteering in and around the Gilgandra region, improving the community through her efforts. She has spent 35 years with the St Vincent De Paul society. She has also supported the local Red Cross branch for 20 years. Mrs. Newstead was also recognized for “her weekly visits to the Cooee Lodge Hostel and special care wing to offer hand and nail care reflect her caring nature as a ‘quiet achiever'.”

Furthermore, she has “many years with the CWA,” Mrs. Newstead said. This includes serving as publicity officer for CWA Macquarie Group and CWA Gilgandra Evening Branch, along with past presidency. Mrs. Newstead said that she was honored to receive the recognition. “Her steadfast leadership and dedication to the community makes her a prime example of candidacy for Leader in Community Development recognition. “Her hands-on approach to supporting the community showcases a deep commitment to enriching communities across the central west,” stated her acknowledgment board at the event.
