Harland’s battle it out in NSW Fender Bender series
A family battle in the NSW Fender Bender Series was the local highlight as more than 400 paying spectators and 80 competitors made their way to Gilgandra Speedway for the return to racing on Sunday, October 5.

Gilgandra’s Nathan Harland was the winner of round one in the NSW Fender Bender Series.
It was a one-two for the hosts with Nathan’s uncle Brian Harland was in second. Newcastle’s Simon Sepos was in third place.
Nathan had a win in a heat, while Brian had two heat wins before the feature race.
They were even able to have a little joke in the post feature-race presentation, where the story goes Nathan thanked Brian for being older and letting him win.
In the NSW Street Stockers Series first round, Gilgandra’s Will Foot was the winner from Mick Bone (second) and David Fuller (third).
In the ACMA Nationals at Gilgandra, David Robertson won the feature race from Daniel Roberts, with Andy Wilcox in third.
Dion Bennett had a great night, winning heats one, two and three of the NSW Super Sedans to take out the night. Liam Heaton was in second place with Darren Dalton third.
Gilgandra driver Isobelle Jennar was the winner of the Fast Fours with Stephen Keeler (second) and Jacob Hignett (third) also on the podium). The GDSC committee of around 10 people has been working 12-hour days for the last three weeks across weekends and also at night after work mid-week to get the event off the ground with the new renovations.
Key construction project elements included the new 1.3 metre high concrete safety wall, a new six metre high pit gate and 4.7 metre high catch fence along with reinstating existing light poles and other works.
“Sunday night was amazing, everything went well, racing was smooth,” Gilgandra District Speedway Club secretary Louise Harland said. “We got the best result ever. We couldn’t be prouder.”
Around 80 competitors travelled from near and far. Some of the other categories raced on the night included the Wingless Sprints, V8 Dirt Modifieds, Racing Sedans Australia (RSA) Junior Sedans, and Modlites.
“What an incredible night it was at Gilgandra Speedway! After eight months of hard work, our dedicated committee and passionate members have poured their hearts into making our track a five-star venue right here in Gilgandra,” Gil Speedway commented via social media.
The GDSC was formed in 1988, and racing began at Gilgandra Speedway in 1991.
