It’s here! GREAT Day 2026 is happening this Wednesday, March 25, with Gilgandra once again coming together to celebrate the joy of reading.

GREAT Day – Gilgandra Reads Everything Around Town – promises a vibrant program of storytelling, creativity and community connection.

The day will begin with a special Storytime in the GIL Library Hub Plaza, where acclaimed performer Mitch Tambo will welcome pre-schoolers and school students alike.

A proud First Nations artist, Mitch is known for blending contemporary sounds with traditional influences, performing in both English and Gamilaraay. His music carries themes of pride, identity and belonging, and has resonated with audiences across Australia and beyond.

Mitch’s engaging performances and storytelling encourage young people to embrace who they are, be courageous, and believe in themselves.

His well-known rendition of “You’re the Voice,” performed in language, has reached audiences around the world, while his children’s book I AM ME shares a heartfelt message of self-acceptance and kindness. Whether through music, storytelling or conversation, Mitch brings energy, warmth and inspiration to every stage he steps onto.

In the afternoon, visiting graphic designer and illustrator Matthew Lin will lead a series of interactive drawing workshops for students. With more than 30 years’ experience across publishing, advertising and promotional design, Matthew has illustrated numerous manga and graphic novels and previously worked with Scholastic before establishing his freelance career.

These hands-on workshops are designed to make drawing both enjoyable and accessible, with practical techniques suited to all skill levels. Matthew will also host a special evening session for teens and adults, offering a relaxed and welcoming space for the wider community to explore their creativity. All are welcome to join this free activity.
