A recent spate of vandalism at the Gilgandra Cemetery has angered locals. Family members are outraged that about half a dozen graves and headstones have been damaged in the past month.
Damage includes the pushing over of headstones, breaking of raised top bases, and even the removal of name plaques.
These items come a at a large cost to relatives, with pricing for granite headstones ranging from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars.
The incidents have been reported to Gilgandra Shire Council and local police however, those affected believe that more should be done to curb the "offensive vandalism" of the graves sites. Family members feel that cameras should be set up at multiple spots in the cemetery and lawn cemetery areas to curb further vandalism, and bring those responsible before the courts.
