Gilgandra PROBUS Club July Meeting
Overseas trips were a key topic as Emily Zell was guest speaker at Gilgandra Probus Club.

Emily Zell was guest speaker for the Gilgandra PROBUS Club's July meeting.
She is the granddaughter of member Marg and Max Zell and is currently at Canberra university in her second year of a double degree in political science and international studies. Emily told us of her wonderful two weeks in Vietnam where she met a group of young people to continue her journey.
They rode motorcycles around the countryside to the Chinese border and were able to see how other people live.
Six months earlier, Emily went to Thailand by herself.
She enjoyed a ring making class run by an eight-year-old and visited a place called Bau Tong ‘Sticky Waterfalls’ located in Sri Lanna National Park, north of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand.
The limestone rocks have a texture that grips your feet allowing you to easily walk and climb directly up the cascades.
In Cambodia, she visited many interesting areas including Pub Street and Angkor War Temples built 800-years-ago. There are a thousand temples in all.
Emily visited the ‘Killing Fields’ where the Khmer Rouge regime, Pol Pot’s bloody Year Zero cleansing campaign occurred.
We saw very chilling photos of the holes in the ground where many bombs were dropped.
Gilgandra PROBUS Club thanked Emily for her interesting address and gave her a certificate.
