A reunion of The Gilgandra Entertainers is planned for the Sunday October 6 2024 and everyone is welcome.
The Gilgandra Entertainers, now Gilgandra Alive, were a very dedicated and creative force in Gilgandra who staged concerts, musicals, pantomimes, art shows, and operettas in the 1970s, 80s and 90s.
In the early days the goal was to raise money to establish the Coo-ee Retirement Hostel and Village.
The original idea was put forward by Mrs Dulcie Zell, a member of the Biddon branch of CWA, and was taken up by the Gilgandra Shire Council and the Masonic Lodge.
The complex is now a very valuable and much-admired asset in our town.
The concert grand piano was another goal achieved by the whole town coming together to raise funds for its purchase.
Mayor Tony McGrane was very supportive of this venture and locals joined by a subscription of $5 and then volunteered to help make great entertainment happen.
To stage an event takes a lot more than singers, actors, dancers, and musicians.
Many people volunteered their time and skills by making costumes, building scenery, selling tickets (pre-sale and at the door), supplying sandwiches and cakes for supper, pulling curtains, being stagehands as well as the all-important sound and lighting to bring it all to life!
It's time to get together, revisit and celebrate those creative days.
Everyone is most welcome to attend - you don’t have to have been part of it back then, just come for the fun of it.
