A great field of 17 bowlers took to the greens for social bowls on Wednesday, March 6. The winners with the least ends and a win were Mike Newstead, Dave Jones and Jayden Doran who defeated Christine Howchin, Bob Rogers and Dylan Marchant, 14-13.

In other games Mal Altmann, Stacey Reynolds and Ray Riley defeated Ed Wlodarczyk, Paul Morris and Rod Howchin, 16-12.

Bruce Parker, Shayne (the swinger) Barwick and Gil Riley had a win against Larry Clark and Garry Garbutt, 20-14.

Sunday social bowls had 14 starters with the winners being Gavin Glover and David Duffy who defeated Mal Altmann and Norm Lummis, 19-12.

Bruce Parker and Noel Raines defeated Leroy Gregory and Dylan Marchant, 15-13. Parky and Fox also won the jackpot. The remaining game resulted in a 20-10 win for one of the sides. As there were no names indicated in the we/they area it can’t be advised who the we/they were.

The 2023 Championships have finally been completed with final of the 21-up played on Saturday. Leading into the final Shaun Marchant defeated James Rogers 25-2.

This win put Shaun into the semi-final against brother Dylan. Shaun held the lead until the 19th of the 22 ends played. The scores were 17-all on the 20th end when Dylan Marchant won the last two ends to claim the victory.

As a result of this game Dylan played Rambo Young in the finals. This game was played over a marathon 29 ends and a duration of three hours. At the 27th end and after leading for most of this game Dylan still had the lead 20-16. The comeback-kid Rambo, gained four shots on the next end to bring the score to 20-all with the winner to be decided on the next end. Showing nerves of steel and great concentration Rambo held the shot with Dylan only having one bowl left to play. However, this final bowl was all Dylan needed to take the shot and the win.

Congratulations Dylan and well done to Rambo for making the final. As commented by Rambo post-match, he was happy to make the final, he never gives up and like an emu - he never goes backwards.

The draw for the Fours Championships is on the noticeboard. Bowlers to check whose team you are in and get these games moving. Round One games are to be completed by March 24.
