Galahs following due process to test coaching applications
Gulargambone vice-president Greg King confirmed that the coaching positions for the men’s and women’s tri tag sides would go through an open applications process.

After a successful 2024 season, particularly in the female space, the Gulargambone Galahs are ensuring they follow due process to build for the 2025 Western Plains Rugby Union competition.
Gulargambone vice-president Greg King confirmed that the coaching positions for the men’s and women’s tri tag sides would go through an open applications process.
Angus Beveridge coached the young men’s first grade side that missed the play-offs in 2024 and could well put his hat in the ring to coach again next year.
Gulargambone’s first grade side had a 3-9 win-loss record to finish fifth but with an extremely youthful backbone of the side have the potential to improve.
Zac Mills, with King as his fitness coach and assistant, did an excellent job with the Flamin’ Galahs, who went 8-2 through the regular season and made this year’s Western Plains women’s tri tag grand final.
King confirmed that the club would open up applications to all prospective applicants so the committee can see what is out there for next year.
“Gus and Zac both did tremendous jobs this year and as a club we were very happy with the season,” King told the Gilgandra Weekly recently.
“For us, it’s about being open and transparent and ensuring we see exactly what is out there.”
Gulargambone’s men’s second grade side also qualified for the semi-finals, but with that side playing sparingly throughout the season, at this stage just the men’s first grade and women’s tri tag coaching roles will be advertised.
It was a year of firsts.
Not only did the tri tag side qualify for the grand final, going down 22-12 to the Bogan Bulls from Nyngan at Walgett in early September, but a fortnight later, they travelled to Sydney to play an exhibition match at Accor Stadium during half-time of the Bledisloe Cup match between the Wallabies and All Blacks.
The club also held its presentation night on a harbour cruise in Sydney the night before the Flamin’ Galahs played on the hallowed turf of the Olympic stadium.
