Fantastic fun at Curban’s Theatre Restaurant
If you’ve visited the Curban Community Hall, you would find it difficult to imagine that 25-years-ago, entering the hall involved stepping over bare dirt and khaki weed into an unlined tin shed with a primitive kitchen and pit toilets out the back!

The hall’s transformation into a fully-lined, air-conditioned, first-rate community space boasting an amenities block, splendidly-appointed kitchen, expansive turf, gardens and tennis courts was the result of great planning, sweat and commitment of many local volunteers during the intervening years. Those steadfast volunteers still maintain the hall and grounds and still plan events. Since its renovation the Curban Community Hall has become a jewel in the district’s crown, location of countless memorable occasions.
The hall committee has built a well-deserved reputation over the years for excellence in its innovative and enjoyable events.
Committee members are excited about their latest venture, an upcoming ‘Theatre Restaurant’ which promises to deliver a superb night of fun, frivolity and fine food. Some secrecy surrounds the identity of the professional entertainers, for good reason which will become clear on the evening and will no doubt add another level of enjoyment. The hall committee will make a donation from the proceeds of the evening to the Restoration Fund of St Ambrose Memorial Anglican Church, known as the ‘Cooee Church’, a National Trust-listed structure, but more importantly a significant building in Gilgandra’s history.
The word “community” is part of the hall’s title, and it genuinely lives up to its name. It is much more than a building standing amidst paddocks in a sparsely populated village. It is the hub and heart of the rural neighbourhood and beyond, only a short drive from Gilgandra. The hall committee can be justifiably proud of its past and look confidently to its future.
