Dog trials will make a debut at Saturday’s 103rd annual Gulargambone Show. The show will have all its usual activities but the dog trials are an addition thanks to local couple Sam and Matilda Taylor. There will be a number of events for regular trial competitors and an event for local people to try their hand at the sport.

“It’s our first year for dog trials,” Gulargambone Show Society secretary Sheree Spora said. A woodchopping demonstration and sports shear, cattle, sheep and wool competitions will also take place. There will also be a junior judging competition with students from Gilgandra, Coonamble and Dubbo competing. For horse enthusiasts, there will be hack, galloway, and pony events across the rings.

The pavilion will be full of exhibits including fruit and vegetables, flowers and plants, cookery, homebaked bread, jams and miscellaneous, needlework, arts and crafts, and photography. Devonshire teas will be available with cappuccinos and freshly made scones. In addition, the Lions Club will be making delicious steak sandwiches for purchase as well as salt bush lamb. A fully licensed bar will also be in operation.

There will be stallholders allowing some shopping to take place, while sideshow alley is expected to be a hit with the younger crowd. “We’re looking forward to a great day,” Mrs Spora said. “We have a very small but dedicated committee who keep working hard to ensure we can provide a quality show.”

In the 12 months since the 2023 show, two valued committee members, Sara Roche and Willy Redington, have passed away. Mrs Spora said both Sara and Willy were valued committee members and good people who will be missed on show day and into the future. Entry is free to attend the show but donations are welcomed. A campdraft is also on the weekend with events on Saturday as part of the show. The action will commence around 9am and continue throughout the day.
