CWA Monthly News Reports

The recent Gilgandra CWA Evening Branch Meeting was held on Saturday, March 20 at the CWA Rooms on 3 Warren Road.

The recent Gilgandra CWA Evening Branch Meeting was held on Saturday, March 20 at the CWA Rooms on 3 Warren Road. President Rebekah Makila welcomed all members and many guests. The meeting began with a reciting of the CWA Motto as well as the National Anthem. This was followed by Apologies, a recounting of the Minutes of the last Meeting, any Business arising, and Secretary’s Correspondence. The Treasurer’s Finance Report was also discussed alongside the general business.

4 CWA Gilgandra Members prepared and served dinner on Thursday, March 14 for all in attendance at the Macquarie Home Stay in Dubbo. Rob Crowfoot was in attendance and discussed with us the upcoming CWA Guesthouse which will provide another 26 self-contained family units. The building is on its way and is a wonderful initiative for patients and families. Every Tuesday morning the CWA Windmill Yarners meet and are busy with crocheting knee rugs for the people at the Macquarie Home stay. Wednesday morning the Quilters ladies are at the rooms and produce some beautiful quilts for anyone in need.

The CWA will be running a Kiosk at the Gilgandra Show Fri-Sat. We will also cater for morning tea on Anzac Day.

INTERNATIONAL REPORT: France has become the first Country to include the Right to Abortion in the Constitution. The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be the biggest event ever organized in France; 100,000 applications have been made to carry the Olympic Flag, and 15,000 athletes will be competing in events. 13 million meals to cater and 8,000 trees have been planted at the new Olympic Village. Helen brought along to the meeting a variety of Products from France as well lovely scarves and books, a very interesting country to study this year.

AGRICULTURE & ENVIRONMENT REPORT: It was noted by the AG Environment Officer that the recent aerial shooting of Feral Pigs near Warren & Collie culled 400 feral pigs. It is carried out by experienced and skilled shooters. Feral Pigs damage native fauna and flora through uprooting, consuming or trampling of plants. They are also a huge concern for farmers who are losing a large percentage of lambs. They destroy crops and pasture as well. Feral pigs are amongst the worst damaging pest animal.

COOKERY: Members were invited to cook a sultana cake for the March meeting. Julie Sawley was awarded 1st prize for a beautifully presented sultana cake. For the April Meeting members are invited to bake a glazed chocolate cake, Happy cooking everyone. A wonderful supper after the meeting!

PUBLICITY REPORT: The March CWA Market had a good attendance with approximately 14 stall holders. The markets are advertised in the Gilgandra Weekly, as well as WARFM and The Shire "Enjoy' Website. Stall holders were invited to attend a free market stall at the tractor pull which was held on Easter Saturday many stall holders were present at the event. The NSW Publicity Forum attended the online 2-hour Publicity Webinar hosted by Simon Marnie who currently hosts ABC Radio Sydney weekend morning program across NSW. We enjoyed a very informative session with Simon passing on tips for public speaking and voice control. Our next Zoom meeting will have Heather Hewitt from ABC "Backroads" as our guest.

The meeting closed at 9.30pm.
