The land parcels affected include 68 Myrtle Street, 41 Miller Street, Lot 106 Len Kelly Drive, the entirety of the Aeropark Subdivision, 97 Warren Road, 357 Oxley Highway and 34 Waugan Street.

The decision provides certainty for how these properties can be managed and used to support council functions.

Council also resolved that all future reports on land purchases must include a recommendation for classification as either community or operational land, ensuring consistent decision-making for property management.

What is Operational Land?

Under the Local Government Act 1993, council-owned land must be classified as either community or operational.

Community land is set aside for public use and cannot be sold or leased without due process.

Examples include parks, sports grounds, and public reserves.

Operational land is land held by council for general functions, including administration, service provision or potential development, and can be sold, leased or licensed in line with council decisions.

By confirming the operational classification, Gilgandra Shire Council has positioned these parcels for flexible use to meet future service and development needs.
