Donation of library shelving

Library collections are to be moved to The GIL Library Hub and will be displayed on all new shelving, provided under a State Library - Public Library Infrastructure grant. Two community groups – Gilgandra Public School and Gilgandra Community Garden – have requested a donation of the current shelving.

Gilgandra Public School plans to use the shelving to “give [our library] a fresh, clean feel and significantly improve the learning environment for our students,” writes Chantel Chandler, teacher librarian at Gilgandra Public School. “It would facilitate easier access to books, create a more structured division between learning spaces, and provide flexibility for rearranging shelves.”

Gilgandra Community Gardens plans to use the shelving as displays for resources, intended to “encourage participation… with the Gilgandra community at large,” as stated in the business paper.

Council has resolved to donate available shelving to Gilgandra Public School and Gilgandra Community Garden as requested. Council will also make any excess shelving or unwanted furniture available to other community groups as needed.
