Council applies to seal Toora-Mendooran Road

Gilgandra Shire Council has advised that the project to seal 12.5 kilometres of unsealed sections on National Park Road progressed well - “enhancing its resilience against future weather events and improving travel conditions”.

Ongoing and regular cost monitoring of the project has also indicated that there are budget efficiencies, as the original estimate allowed for wet weather and/or any other unforeseen circumstances of which the project has encountered few.

A similar situation has arisen on Naden Drive, where Regional NSW Infrastructure Grant (RNIG) funding will cover the costs of the industrial subdivision construction, offsetting a further amount of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) support required.

Council reports that these identified savings could allow for the remaining funding, allocated to the LRCI project, to be used elsewhere. Mayor Doug Batten said “with the remaining budget, council has requested a variation from the LRCI funding body to allow us the opportunity to seal a part of the Tooraweenah-Mendooran Road – an area of importance identified by our community identified during the recent rounds of Community Strategic Plan consultation sessions”.

“Improving community infrastructure and connecting our communities is a key deliverable for council, and we have high hopes for a positive outcome from the funding body.”

At their last ordinary meeting, council resolved to apply for a variation in the scope of the LRCI funding program, to reallocate $1,385,150 of unspent funds remaining to the sealing of four kilometres of the Tooraweenah-Mendooran Road.

Council have been undergoing all of the preliminary investigations in anticipation that the funding variation request is approved, allowing works to commence as soon as able.
