Castlereagh Highway intersection upgrade to boost heavy vehicle safety south of Coonamble
Work will begin this week to upgrade the Castlereagh Highway intersection with Warren Road south of Coonamble to improve safety for all road users.
Transport for NSW Executive Director Damien Pfeiffer said a review was carried out following concerns raised by Coonamble Shire Council and the community about traffic and safety at the intersection.
“Transport has listened to the community feedback and developed a solution for the intersection that will boost safety and efficiency for all road users,” Mr Pfeiffer said.
“The upgrade will include a dedicated right turn for southbound traffic from the Castlereagh Highway into Warren Road to create a safer turning environment and reduce the risk of crashes.
“The highway will also be widened to allow sufficient space for southbound vehicles to continue through and safely pass turning vehicles.
“Crews will also widen and repair an existing culvert on Warren Road and upgrade the intersection warning signage to advise all road users of the changes.”
Coonamble Shire Council will deliver the work on behalf of Transport for NSW.
Work will be carried out between 7am and 6pm from Monday, June 15 until the end of August, weather permitting.
Changed traffic conditions, including single lane closures, stop/slow traffic and reduced speed limits may be in place during construction for the safety of all workers and motorists.
